The three stages show search volume, visitors and conversions — all in the same unit, a count. Bar width follows a square-root scale, which keeps the narrowing visible without shrinking the last stage to nothing. The monetary value appears in the result card above.

You have the traffic value. Now set it against what the rankings cost you.
What organic search traffic is actually worth to you
The keyword traffic value converts an abstract search volume into a business figure. Instead of asking «how often is this searched», it answers the question that decides budgets: «what would ranking for this actually bring me?» It chains four numbers — search volume, a realistic click-through rate, conversion rate and value per conversion — into one, and that one is comparable across keywords in a way volume never is.
From keyword search volume to revenue in three steps
Visitors / month = search volume × (CTR ÷ 100)
Conversions / month = visitors × (CVR ÷ 100)
Traffic value / month = conversions × value per conversion
The chain in full, with numbers
A keyword with 5,000 monthly searches, a CTR of 30 %, a CVR of 2 % and $50 per conversion:
Annualised that is $18,000 of business value — from one keyword, at position 1–3.
Organic CTR is the number most likely to be wrong
Everything above multiplies, which means the least reliable input governs the result — and that input is the CTR. It moves with ranking position, with the SERP layout (featured snippets, shopping ads, people also ask) and with search intent. As a rough orientation:
Treat these as an estimate, never as a forecast. Between position 1 and position 10 lies a factor of ten, and a featured snippet can depress the CTR even at position 1 — the answer to a query is on the page already.
Prioritise by keyword value, not by search volume
- Intent before volume: Transactional keywords — buy, order, pricing — almost always convert better than informational ones, which gives them a higher traffic value at a lower volume.
- Be honest about reachability: A rankable 1,000-volume keyword at 30 % CTR beats a 10,000-volume keyword sitting at position 8 with 3 %. Run both scenarios through the calculator before choosing.
- Bundle the long tail: Many long-tail keywords at 200–500 searches each often add up to more traffic value than one high-volume term, and against far less competition.
- Feed the result into SEO ROI: The traffic value calculated here is the input for the SEO ROI calculator — which closes the loop from keyword estimate to investment decision.
Frequently asked questions
- What is keyword traffic value?
- It converts a keyword's search volume into a business figure: the visitors a ranking would bring, how many of those would convert, and what those conversions are worth. That lets you judge an SEO target before investing in it, and prioritise by value rather than by volume.
- How do you estimate visitors from a keyword?
- Visitors per month = search volume × click-through rate. CTR depends heavily on position: roughly 30–40 % at position 1, 10–13 % at position 3, under 3 % at position 10 and close to nothing on page two. If you can realistically reach positions 1–3, work with 25–35 %; for 4–10, use 5–15 %. Search intent and SERP features shift all of it.
- Is search volume from tools like Google Keyword Planner reliable?
- Search volume figures are estimates and vary considerably between tools and periods. They work well for relative comparison — which keyword has more potential — and poorly as absolute forecasts. Always combine volume with search intent, competition and a realistic assessment of whether you can rank at all.
- Is a higher search volume always better?
- No. High volume is worth nothing if you cannot rank for the term or the intent does not match what you sell. A rankable keyword with 500 searches and a 5 % conversion rate is often worth more than a 10,000-volume keyword converting at 0.1 %. Traffic value decides, not volume.
